Food Safety Policy

Updated January 2021

Food safety is key to everything we do, and we operate to exactly the same standards as the food industry. Our food management systems ensure full compliance and traceability, and our suppliers are independently audited every year.

We adhere to all relevant food safety legislation including:

  • Food Safety Act 1990
  • Food Hygiene Regulations England/Scotland 2006
  • Reg EC852/2004 Hygiene of Food Stuffs

In addition, Bedside Kosher has a full HACCP Manual, which ensures all appropriate processes and procedures are implemented across our network.

Each Bedside Kosher supplier is audited regularly by NSF International, using a specific audit process. Each of our Centres are audited on their Storage, Wholesale and Distribution standard, and all have been awarded Gold standard. Audit documentation is available. An internal audit is also carried out by a qualified member of the National Team every six months.

The Bedside Kosher database provides full traceability of all products, from the time of receipt by Bedside Kosher to the point of delivery at our hospitals.

Compliance and guidelines

Every Supplier of Bedside Kosher follows a strict compliance procedure. All warehouse managers and co-ordinators hold a CIEH Level 3 Award in Food Safety. All of our Regional Centres use the following documentation:

  • Monitoring sheets for chill and freezer storage
  • Collection notes
  • Delivery notes
  • Cleaning schedules
  • Probe calibration
  • Van temperature sheets
  • Stock control
  • HACCP, Recall procedures
  • Training records for all staff, volunteers and placements.

Product Recall

In the unlikely event that a food supplier would need to recall their products, Bedside Kosher is able to undertake this process, providing reassurance to companies who supply us with their surplus food.

Hospital compliance

Every hospital that receives food from Bedside Kosher can handle food safely and adheres to all relevant legislation.

The majority of the hospitals and community groups we work with will use our food to re-heat fresh meals on-site. The food cannot be sold in any way and is only supplied to an authorised hospital within the Bedside Kosher compliance guidelines.
